Enterprise Era Cutter by HandofManos Enterprise Era Cutter by HandofManos
As per request I am posting an older small ship design. It was basically a jump warp capable cutter for system policing and patrol duties in the early days of the Federation.

It has limited weapons capability, in the form of dual nose mounted pulse cannon and a missile launcher in its wing, yet that is enough for its role.

The crew would consist out of a pilot, weaponsofficer, commander and a engineer (with the possibility of some additional security officers for boarding).

I really do like this design.

The sleek hull. The little wings. I'm guessing those two things at the rear that the wings are attached to are the main thrusters, and if they are, they look powerful. Such a cool little ship!:D (Big Grin)

I'm guessing that the most action this sort of vessel would see (and probably survive for that matter) would be the errant smuggler.

I don't think this is the sort of vessel that would be very useful against well-armed pirates.

Thanks and yeah it is not very well suited against well armed ships :D

You're welcome. You're quite amazing with Illustrator. Whenever I try to approach that sort of quality, well, I don't think my MacBook is well-suited for the task.

I've been looking at your stuff for years, but have only just joined now.:) (Smile)  I'll definitely be faving more of your stuff in the future.

For now, though, I have to go back to posting the rest of my work that I've done up to now.

Yeah, Photoshop and Illustrator are great programs. At least when they don't give me the spiny colored wheel of doom. After a while of having to deal with Illustrator moving like a slug, and slowing down the rest of the computer, I stopped trying to make schematics in Illustrator.

I'd like to address the issue, so I can get back to doing that.

Your design is quite good. I have not the slightest idea how people can draw like this. That is using a computer and other tools to create art. I have a personal interest in smaller ships like these. I think that they were sadly lacking in all of the Star Trek fiction. They were part of my research for a series of Star Trek stories that spanned the period from the present time, but within the setting of the ST:TOS established time line. The whole idea was trigged by my viewing of the first episode of ST:TNG. Much of it was set in the mid-21st Century to the period mid-22nd Century. Additionally, in the process of the work I started working on vehicles of this type, but set about a century and a quarter early. Most were small to medium ships, like System Patrol Vehicles, Cutters of various size and endurance, and some larger ships that predated the typical design architecture of Star Trek, but would eventually morph into that same architecture. I hope that you do more of these ships.

Thanks for the kind words. And I do agree that small to medium vessels are overlooked in the Star Trek universe. The main reason I made a few of them, like this cutter but also a tug boat gunship etc etc.
I probably will make more designs in the future but for now I have a few other projects to work on. But rest assured I am certain to get back to designing Star Trek ships.

Why not avoid the extra complication of a retractable pod and just nose mount the deflector?  You could move the pulse cannon further apart and have plenty of room.

That is not a bad point but since it has limited space inside its hull I think it would work the best in this configuaration

The forward view made me think for a second that the Nav-Deflector disc might have been contained in a hemisphere.  I still think it a cool idea.

By the way...I use some of your hull designs for non-Trek RPGs.  They're pretty sensible, and have thematic deniability.

Yup always liked the idea of smaller support ships doing the 'simple' stuff so starships can do their jobs

So there must be a boarding crew. Marines maybe? Or ship security?

I say squad size. Hey could you make a small shuttle for MACO insertion on small planet's. Like a special forces insertion helo.

Sounds interesting but this is quite an old piece of work and as such I have moved on to other projects :) I think this ship is too small for a shuttle anyway and it will land itself on a surface of a planet.

Land on the planet? Then I understand, this should work like the old PT boats, design among other things black ops insertion. OH!

Nice, minimal and no nonsense, looks like it might be a direct ancestor to the Norway class.
