Ka Ryu (Fire Dragon) class corvette that can be found on battlecruisers up to superdreadnoughts to perform various duties. These duties range from CAP to seek and destroy or RIF recon in force missions.
These ships can also be found at outposts and system defense stations. This particular model is unit A2 (second unit of Alpha flight) stationed onboard the Yamamoto.
Crewed by 8 the ship is armed with a quad massdriver in the nose and laser emiters in the wings.
Just when I thought the Chronicles of Man universe was getting a bit stale on the designs, seeing such a unique shape is very refreshing. Without a doubt it's one of the most original ships I have seen lately, but at the same it all seems cohesive and fitting. The bright color of the hull and orange highlights make its shapes defined and pretty memorable. There's not much that could be considered as a downside to the image, but I think that it could be a little bit more detailed. Just a few more panel lines could do wonders to the shape, along with small position lights on the tips of the extrusions. However, overall it's a very detailed drawing with thought-out shapes and nice twists such as the rounded intrusions located before the vertical wings. It will be hard to continue with a lineage on this vessel because of it's uniqueness, but I hope it will become an inspiration to more CoM ships.
I like how Orson Scott Card did it in Xenocide and Children of the Mind, especially with the Japanese. Basically, the culture had gotten so far removed from historic Japanese Culture - as it's starting to already - and the people tried so hard to return to it that they overstepped and got it right, if not too strictly so, in some manners, but completely missed the mark or ignored other aspects.
Then again, this is XXXX number of years in the future. Culture changes.
Was actually thinking about a ship of similar design for a while. Problem I came across was docking, and, even if landing flat, would take up considerable space unless you wall-mount dock them.
