Rescue Operations by HandofManos Rescue Operations by HandofManos
Sipping his coffee captain Manos went over the report his chief engineer had just handed over.
Lieutenant Jansen sat on the other side of the desk as her captain finished the report a slightly puzzled look in her eyes as she looked out of the viewport behind Manos, the S.S. Starfury clearly visible as it matched her course with the Wisp.

The captain's antennae suddenly twitched as in surprise making her turn her attention back to him.
"Are you sure about this?" He asked as he put down the report with a frown. "Are you not seeing ghosts chief?" He added seriously.

"I'm quite sure captain." She said raising her shoulders a little bit trying to look and sound more confident the she felt.
The USS Wisp had responded to a distress call only 9 hours ago by the S.S. Starfury, a L-class bulkfreighter, finding her completely dissabled and slowly being pulled into the atmosphere of G'Ron IV.
Only the timely arrival of the Wisp had the saved the Starfury before it would have disintigrated into the atmosphere.

"At first I thought the shutdown of the reactor was thanks to faulty maintenance but then I noticed that the main computer core systems seemed to be completely wiped."

"Might this not have something to do with the poweroverload from the reactor as it went into an emergency shutdown?" Captain Manos said as he leaned back with a worried frown, not sounding so convinced himself of his question urging her to continue.

"Those were my thoughts first as well but there are safeguards which should have saved most of the memory of the main computer." Jansen answered with a sad smile. "It is too much of a coincidence sir that two such occurrences happen in the same time."

Looking lost of thought captain Manos looked out of the viewport at the bright blue planet they were orbiting, the S.S. Starfury's navigational light blinking brightly as she stayed in formation.
"I concur chief." he finally said. "I do not believe in coincidence and with the disappearance of several freighters the last two weeks I feel there is more going around here,"
"What had the S.S. Starfury in common with the missing freighters..."

"Sir I did have a talk with he ships master and he did mention they performed a computer dump at K4... and if I am not wrong at least two of the missing ships were last seen there."

"Well seen lieutenant!" Manos said with a grin as he pressed a button on his desk. "Helm set a course to K4... maximum cruise speed."

This might be one of the most pleasant surprises I have seen in my feed lately. I'm a fan of new ships and seeing them in 3D is even better. I liked the Ranger scout, but its appearance here is more interesting than before.
The simple modular design of freighter is also working to its advantage, as the main hull/cockpit stands out even more. I have to admit that its shape is also one of the more interesting for that era.
The whole scene is rather simple with the focus on ships and planet, but it works perfectly for a Star Trek scene, as the vehicles always take the main spot.

The FASA Ranger, although not my favourite of the Fasa craft, or the best one there, is intricately ddetailed and rendered, with an interesting, likely classification-oriented registry, and the nacelles and name are fairly decent, and of it's own particular era in trek, while the planet in the background is fairly gorgeous, and probably is one of those planets with a handful or so of moons, and the starfield is nice, dark, and peppered with specks, in that sort of thing you get from looking at surreal imagery in cool, dry environments.

...And that other vessel there, in keeping with the TOS habit of giving various ships and stations their own letter code, the Class-L Cargo Ship, is cool, an interesting freighter of new design, with some modular construction, and possible appearence in more than one era, definitely a good non-combat entry into Shipd of the Galaxy.

...All in all, I give that sort of thing an enthusiastic thumbs-up. Gorgeous Art/Concept/Background, culminating in a prime specimen of beauty.
